038. The partition of an inheritance: Hadyn, Canon.

Hadyn listened as his Grandmother Vivienne’s will was read aloud for all the family. He wasn’t really surprised to hear that Clive was shorted a good bit of inheritance. He was a Kelly more than Bernard, and he vaguely seemed unsurprised himself- his mother, Julia, seemed angry on his behalf at least. Everyone else exploded into arguments soon after that, Uncle Erick making a claim that he deserved more since he was the eldest on Deck (and the one carrying the Bernard name, still).

For his part, Hadyn reached out and pulled the will to look at it more carefully- My grandson, Hadyn Novak, shall receive five million pounds. Should he return to the Spades, he will receive five million more; however, in the likely event that he remains a Heart, the remaining Five million will be invested in the expansion of Spade Library. The receipt of any inheritance will only be done upon the achievement of proper rank [Ace] and the discontinuation of his inappropriate relations with the man Elisha Kagan.

He snorted a little, sliding the papers back to the lawyer before he stood and rolled his eyes. Let them fight over it, he thought. He wasn’t getting a cent, and somehow…he was okay with that.
